My assistant, Natalie, suggested I start keeping a journal, a ‘blog’, on the internet. She says that it might be therapeutic to write down my thoughts and maybe I’ll meet some interesting people.
I suspect that she is hoping that if I make new friends, I won’t depend on her so much and I won’t be calling her at 10 o’clock at night with Lysol emergencies. She said that I should start by telling people who I am. My name is Adrian Monk. She said just telling you my name wasn’t enough. She told me to tell you a little bit about myself. She said I should do the best that I can. I was married to a woman named Trudy. She was beautiful, talented and perfect. I don't know why she married me. She was murdered on December 14th, 1997 and my life fell apart. I used to be a homicide detective with the San Francisco Police Department, but I had a breakdown after Trudy was killed and I have been on a temporary suspension every since. I am working toward reinstatement, but in the meantime, I work as a private consultant for the department, mostly with Captain Stottlemeyer. I can’t really talk about any current cases I am working on, that would be against the law, so I guess I will mostly talk about older cases. And rock polishing. And cleaning. I don’t think I will be very good at this ‘blogging’ thing.
